OLeinen. 157 S., mit Illustrationen, Gr.-8° 1872 wurde die Eisengießerei von Ernst Loewe gegründet. Das Unternehmen fertigte in der Hauptsache Ersatzteile für landwirtschaftliche Maschinen und Großgeräte. 1904 starb Ernst Loewe und seine Frau und seine Kinder übernahmen das Unternehmen. 1918 der erste Weltkrieg ging auch an der Fabrik nicht spurlos vorüber. Existenzschwierigkeiten zwangen das Unternehmen, das Fabrikationsprogramm zu erweitern. Die ersten elektrisch betriebenen Pumpen wurden gefertigt. Es waren langsam laufende Kolbenwasserpumpen, die worwiegend der Hauswasserversorgung dienten. 1935 Nachdem mehrfach die Leitung des Unternehmens durch die Hände verschiedener Familienmitglieder ging und die Rechtsform der Firma mehrfach geändert wurde, wandelten die damaligen Gesellschafter Andreas und Johann Loewe die GmbH in eine offene Handelsgesellschaft um. Die dreißiger Jahre waren durch den Ausbau der Werkskapazitäten gekennzeichnet: Eine Maschinenhalle, ein großes Lagerhaus, eine Gussputzerei und eine Werksküche waren nur einige der Ausbauten, die die Entwicklung der Firma dokumentierten. Eine Vertriebsorganisation entstand und erfolgreich exportierte das Unternehmen in die Benelux-Staaten, nach Skandinavien, nach Osteuropa und sogar nach Südamerika 1946 Mit dem Ende des 2. Weltkrieges kam auch das Ende des Unternehmens am Standort Salzwedel. Die Eigentümer wurden enteignet und die russische Besatzungsmacht begann mit der Demontage des Werks.
