Top-stained in blue. Housed in a simple, paper-covered slipcase that has done its job admirably but that is lightly edgeworn at fore-edge head. The Folio Society was founded in 1947 by Charles Ede, Christopher Sandford (of Golden Cockerel Press), and Alan Bott (founder of Pan Books), three presses that shared spaces and philosophies for a time until being incorporated in 1971 and then becoming an employee-owned trust in 2021. The Folio Society began as a membership-based book club but then expanded its range to publish multiple titles in fiction and non-fiction; science fiction and fantasy; biography and autobiography (from the publisher's web-site). Edited and introduced by Roger Lockyer. Thirteen fine illustrations, quite fine; illustrated full-color endpapers front and rear drawn from one of four pieces of Tudor tapestry from Winchester College. The slipcase has a few stains and signs of age but is intact and sturdy, the gilt design binding is based on the 1699 book 'Fables of Pilpay'. Slightly worn down spine but otherwise as new, end paper design is adapted from the original edition of the Earl's book which show the standards of the opposing forces. Binding as new, top page edges blue, paper quality very high as are all the prints, an excellent copy.
