A new species of the family Strombidae, Margistrombus simanoki n. sp. is described based on shells coming from Indonesia, and compared to the other species of the same genus, particularly to the partially sympatric M. robustus (G. B. Sowerby III, 1875). Strombus (Dolomena) sowerbyorum Visser & Man in't Veld, 2005 is here synonymized with M. robustus. The genus Margistrombus is discussed and commented. During the last fifteen year, passed after the publication of the volume "A Conchological Iconography - The Family Strombidae", by Kreipl & Poppe (1999), a lot of new knowledge has been accumulated concerning literature and distributional records. Additionally, new forms and species have been described. Pathbreaking methods allowed the study of genes, enzymes and proteins giving access to a better differentiation of the species, unraveling the systematics of the animals which produce those wonderful shells.
