In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. In his debut novel, Stav Sherez - author of the best-selling Carrigan & Miller detective series - explores a history of terror and mass murder rooted in Europe's murky past. In a forgotten corner of a rain-lashed park in Amsterdam, the body of a tramp is found. The scarring on his body suggests he may be the latest victim of a serial killer terrorizing the city, but the police can find no name, only the telephone number of a young Englishman. Jon Reed is summoned from London to identify the body of the man he once knew as Jake Colby. With a killer on the loose, he and the detective in charge of the case are determined to help uncover the truth of what happened, no matter where that may lead them. Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. The format is approximately 5.5 inches by 8.25 inches. xii, [2], 180, [4] pages. Illustrations. Glossary. Forward by Yehuda Bauer. A survivor of Auschwitz who worked in the gassing installations and crematoria tells of the Jews he saw brought to the house of death to be burned to ashes and recounts his suicide attempt and the cruelty of the SS guard who prevented it. Filip Müller (3 January 1922 9 November 2013) was a Jewish Slovak Holocaust survivor and a member of the Sonderkommando at Auschwitz, the largest Nazi German concentration camp during World War II, where he witnessed the murders of tens of thousands of people. Müller was assigned to a Sonderkommando unit tasked with operating the killing facilities; his performing this role, he believed, was the only reason the Germans kept him alive. Müller says he came to believe that he had a duty to stay alive so that he could become a living witness to the horrors of the Holocaust. Filip Müller came to Auschwitz with one of the earliest transports from Slovakia in April 1942 and began working in the gassing installations and crematoria in May. He was still alive when the gassings ceased in November 1944. He saw millions come and disappear; by sheer luck he survived. Müller is neither a historian nor a psychologist; he is a sourceone of the few prisoners who saw the Jewish people die and lived to tell about it. Eyewitness Auschwitz is one of the key documents of the Holocaust. First Scarborough Books Edition [stated]. Presumed first printing.

"Emil Schürer's Geschichte des jüdischen Volkes im Zeitalter Jesu Christi, a critical presentation of the whole evidence concerning Jewish history, institutions, and literature from 175 B.C. to A.D. 135, has rendered invaluable services to scholars for nearly a century. It had four successive German editions between 1874 and 1909, and an English translation, A History of the Jewish People in the Time of Jesus Christ, was made from the second German edition and published between 1885 and 1891. The present work, while retaining the structure and all that is still valid of the most recent edition of the original, offers a fresh English text and a full and integrated revision of the entire subject matter. The bibliographies have been updated and supplemented; the sources are presented according to the latest scholarly editions with a corresponding adjustment of the argument, when necessary; and all the new archaeological, epigraphical, numismatic, and literary evidence, including the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bar Kokhba documents, has been introduced into the survey. Account has also been taken of the progress in historical research, both in the classical and Jewish fields. The editors hope that by reminding students of the intertestamental era of the profound debt owed to nineteenth-century learning, and by placing within the framework of the finest product of that scholarship the vast accretion of knowledge gained in the twentieth century, the new Schürer will prove to be a sure foundation upon which future historians of Judaism in the age of Jesus may build.".
