She was from a French family of engravers.Biography artist: Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805) was a French painter noted for his sentimental genre scenes and expressive head studies, which became especially popular in reproductive prints. Condition: very good, given age. Light creasing, foxing and soiling. Some tears in bottom papaer edge, small pinhole. Remains of paper on rear from attachment. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

L'incisione presenta il giovane Bonaparte, all'epoca Primo Console, tratta da un disegno a carboncino di Isabey, esposto al Salon del 1802, tradotto a stampa da Lingée e terminata da Godefroy."Là, j'exécutai le premier portrait en pied du général Bonaparte. Du matin au soir, je le voyais se promener solitairement dans le parc, les mains derrièere le dos, absorbé dans ses conceptions; il me fut aisé de saisir son expression pensive et la physionomie de sa tournure. Ce portrait terminé, je le présentai au general: la rassemblance lui en plut; il me félicita surtout de pouvoir travailler ainsi sans faire poser mon modèle.". (Taigny 1859: p. 24) Interessante notare come il presente esemplare sia reso unico dalla dedica firmata dallo stesso Isabey, "a Légouvé de la part de ton ami Isabey". Gabriel-Marie Legouvé è stato un noto poeta francese per il quale Isabey aveva realizzato delle illustrazioni da inserire come antiporta nei suoi libri, come nel caso dell'opera Le Mérite des femmes stampato a Parigi da l'Imprimerie de P. Didot nel 1801. La stampa si presenta inserita in bella cornice dorata decorata a palmette. La stampa viene venduta in coppia con la 54940BibliografiaTaigny 1859: p. 24.
