Edges, corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed, with small tears and fraying at the spine ends. Page block and endpapers are tanned and foxed, with spots of foxing on the occasional page. Hinge breaks noted, however binding remains sound, and pages are otherwise clear. LW. Used.

(Tr). Matthew Fontaine Maury was an American oceanographer, meteorologist and officer in the United States Navy. He became the first superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory in 1842. This book is his best known work, a comprehensive study of winds, ocean currents and navigation, composed from years of examining logs and charts of naval captains which he found in storage trunks at the Observatory. His publications and system of recording nautical data was used to develop charts for major trade routes. First published in 1855 it was reprinted many times.
