Erstausgabe
Buenos Aires, Imprimerie Coni Frères éditeurs, 1902, 8°, 108 pp., mit 6 farblith. Tafeln und 3 photographische Tafeln, Halbledereinband d.Zt. First Edition! "Extrait de la revista de la Sociedad Médica Arbentina". Joseph Léon Marcel Lignières (1868-1933) was a French-born veterinarian and bacteriologist who spent most of his career in Argentina and is regarded as a founder of South American veterinary bacteriology. His 1902 monograph "Contribution à l'étude des affections connues sous le nom d'actinomycose: actinobacillose" (Buenos Aires/Paris, co-authored with G. Spitz) provided the first clear description of actinobacillosis ("maladie de la langue de bois") as a distinct disease entity and led to the isolation of its etiologic agent, later named 'Actinobacillus lignieresii' in his honor. In this work, Lignières and Spitz separated actinobacillosis from classical actinomycosis on clinical and etiological grounds, characterizing it as a specific pyogranulomatous disease of cattle (and other ruminants) caused by a gram-negative rod, thus laying the foundation for the modern concept of actinobacillosis in veterinary medicine. See - Lignières, J.L.M. Lignières : Actinobacilosis. Semana méd., 9, 207-15, 1902.
