Book bound in red cloth, binding bright and unfaded, but endpapers front and back have been marked by offset from clippings of contemporary reviews laid into the book. Dust jacket good, spine panel sun-darkened and with small chips at top, rest of jacket very good, original price in inside front flap. Choice historic and up-to-date illustrations, including one from The Masses and advertisements of the time. Mrs. Grundy and her male equivalent the Dickens character Pecksniff represented the essence of prudery and hypocrisy. One may see parallels in contemporary controversies.
