In the original black cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Minor loss to the tail of the spine and a small split to the front joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting predominantly to the first and last few pages. The first edition of this very scarce work.The author's own copy, with his ink inscription to the half-title, 'Leo Constance, London - 1904'.Including two handwritten letters loosely inserted, detailing the authors of the letters opinions of the book. The letters are written from a Kathleen Barnweld and a Frances Strachey.Advertising slip for the book loosely inserted.'Sharks' is a novel of city life, looking at company promoting and swindling on a grand scale, written in a lively manner by Guy Thorne and Leo Custance.Thorne is the pen name of Cyril Arthur Edward Ranger Gull, a prolific author best known for his 1903 novel 'When It Was Dark'.One leaf of adverts to the front, and sixteen to the rear, dated September 1904. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A little light rubbing and a few minor marks to the boards and spine. Gilt to the spine is a little faded. A very small amount of loss of cloth to the extremities. Hinges are starting but firm.
