When one considers that in the case of Jean de Reszke a like valuation is placed, almost unanimously, not only upon his abilities as an operatic artist but also upon his qualities as a man, it is interesting to speculate on how a truthful book about him would have been received a few years ago, during the vogue for biographies which seemed less concerned about presenting "the whole man" than about smashing idols. Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Hardback. Red cloth with gilt titles to spine; stamped device to cover. In excellent condition in like jacket. 337 pp. "In this first biography of the greatest of tenors (1850 - 1925) is interwoven the story of his brother Edouard and of the most brilliant period of the operatic stage." True description. The de Reszke brothers were paramount in their day. This bio chronicles their presence and impact. Surprisingly, both eschewed the nascent "recording studios" believing that same did not yet capture accurately the quality and sound of their voices. A loss. Leiser does her best to capture their sound in words. A very handsome copy with jacket in exceptional condition.

Gr.-8°. XIV, 337 S. m. Abb. auf Tafeln. OLn. * Seltene Orig.-Ausgabe mit eigenhändiger Widmung der Autorin an "Tiria? de Reszke.December 6, 1933".
