Ledoux-Lebard développe les arguments pour et contre l'association cancer et hérédité. "Le débat est en effet important, en Angleterre la très grande majorité des médecins et des chirurgiens tendent à considérer l'hérédité du cancer comme certaine, Verneuil lui-même initiateur de la première ligue contre le cancer est partisan de cette doctrine héréditaire. Or, les répercussions sociales sont importantes. Comme le souligne P. Delbet : 'rien n'est plus communément admis que l'hérédité des cancers, rien cependant n'est moins démontré'. Ledoux-Lebard insiste sur la rigueur nécessaire avant d'affirmer de tels liens. La conclusion de cette communication est importante" (J-F Bernaudin). La première phrase de cette conclusion est que : "rien ne nous autorise à affirmer que le cancer soit dune façon générale une maladie héréditaire". René Ledoux-Lebard (1879-1948) fut radiologue et radiothérapeute, ainsi qu'historien de la médecine. Il avait soutenu en 1906 une thèse très remarquée sur la lutte contre le cancer. /// On trouve à la suite un second rapport, présenté par Guillot (du Havre), sur le Problème de l'hérédité cancéreuse en Normandie (pp. 112-119), avec communication d'un projet de mise en place d'un registre des cancers. Ce bulletin était édité par l'Association française pour l'étude du cancer (AFEC), créée en 1906 et devenue 80 ans plus tard la Société française du cancer (SFC).
