Here is a scarce copy of a nice little vintage hard cover book with a curious story, titled: Bobby in Search of a Birthday, by Lebbeus Mitchell. The cover and illustrations were done by Joseph Pierre Nuyttens. This small hard cover book (5 ¼ x 7 ½ inches, 64 pages) was published by P.F. Volland & Co. of Chicago, dated 1916 and a First Edition with the same date on the title and copyright pages. The book is bound in aquamarine paper covered boards with a paste-down color image of our hero and gilt titles and a yellow-orange cloth spine. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled and darkened along the leading edge of the front cover. However, the gilt titles and the paste-down image are still nice and presentable (please see the photos). The rear cover and the spine are also lightly soiled. Inside, a former owner has left her penciled name on the front endpaper and some notations on the rear endpaper, also in pencil. The interior pages are clean and unmarked, without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
