Subjects include: requests for reviews of psychology books and other new publications in Mairet's sphere; discussion of Ernest Jones on Freud and request for a review, suggesting critical stance; Maurice Reckitt [Googled site: "a leading British Anglo-Catholic and Christian Socialist writer."] suggesting Mairet for a Pere Chenu book; when is Frontier book on psychiatry coming out; brief discussion of book on faith by US author and request for review: discussion of planned publication on whether Israel should survive with anti-Jewish implications, adding suggestions keeping Mairet informed on relevant publications; publishers refuse a review copy of 3rd vol. of Freud biography, wondering if they should "argue frantically" for one, asking if he would review Bertrand Russell's just publsihed "Why I am not a Christian", briefly discussing length of review, etc; a good evening with [Owen] Barfield; discussion of "Hocking . . . rightly or wrongly he was considered to be the leader of the modernist and syncretistic approach in the missionary world", mentioning other important related figures (Kraemar and Mott) and discussing; Mairet had submitted something on Hocking and Lawrence wanted further reflection on certain aspects; his ambition to write about Christianity in Russia, speculating that "Honest to God" would stir the Russians up, problems in Russia; response to piece on Charles V, commenting on the causes of the wars of religion, and discussing their responsibility to stop men detroying eachother and "binding humanity", with a caveat against "permissive" tolerance. AND: John Lawrence, "In the Bleak Midwinter", twenty-seven (27) pages (cyclostyled?), "Strictly Confidential", a diary of Lawrence's fact-finding visit to Russia in 1972.
