Both have faint scuffs on covers, likely due to shelf wear, Volume I has a wrinkle to the fabric along the back cover. Exteriors otherwise neat, lettering clean and bright. Corners gently bumped. Title pages dated 1936, copyright pages list publication dates, ending with 1943. Stated "new and definitive edition." Volume I has 674 pages followed by a fold-out map, Volume II has 696 pages followed by its own fold-out map. Light foxing to endpapers and maps in each volume, does not extend to body of the text. Pages overall clean and bright. Volume I's map has two inch-long closed tears, neither of which renders any information illegible. Volume II's map has one closed tear which does not touch the map itself, just the margins. Binding of Volume I is neat and tight.
