Publisher's original tan buckram with gilt titles to spine, top edge dyed brown, in the original unclipped dust jacket. 16 black and white illustrations and 4 maps (2 folding). Some wrinkling and wear to edges of jacket, contents clean and unmarked, as is buckram, generally a very good copy. First published earlier in the same year, this is the first major collection of T. E. Lawrence's letters. E. M. Forster made the first attempt to gather a collection of Lawrence's correspondence, but the task grew too big and the planned volume was shelved. David Garnett took over the project, drawing on Forster's initial editorial plans to publish together Lawrence's wide-ranging letters, and includes correspondence between Lawrence and his mother, E. M. Forster, Thomas Hardy, Ronald Storrs, Eric Kennington, Liddell Hart, and David George Hogarth, the earliest dated August 1906 and the latest May 1935. This was the first and only major collection of letters until the supplementary title Home Letters of T. E. Lawrence and His Brothers was published in 1954.…
