Historische Rückblenden fokussieren zum Einen auf Frauenbilder und Rollenkonzepte aus der Zeit des Sozialismus und "Staatsfeminismus", zum Anderen auf Frauenbewegungen, politisch aktive Frauen und deren Vernetzungen in den einzelnen Ländern Zentral-, Ost- und Südosteuropas seit dem ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert. Beiträge zu rechtlichen und sozialen Kontexten beschließen den Band. The volume begins by taking stock of women's movements and their location following the fall of communism. The authors address a broad range of subjects including gender-specific implications of social politics, feminist positioning and increasingly virulent forms of nationalism. They discuss the "body" and "sexuality" against the background of their own political and academic traditions. Retrospective historical views focus on the images of women and concepts of roles from the era of socialism and "state feminism" as well as on women's movements, politically active women and networks in individual countries in Central, East and South Europe from the beginning of the 18th century.
