On April 9, 2004 his convoy was attached near the Baghdad International Airport. Five of Hamill's associates were killed and he was wounded and taken prisoner by masked gunmen who held him hostage in Iraq for 24 days before he made a daring escape. Thomas Hamill, 43, was working as a truck driver for Kellogg, Brown & Root, a subsidiary of oil field services contractor Halliburton Co., when his fuel convoy was attacked April 9 near Baghdad International Airport and he was taken hostage. Hamill was recovered near Balad, south of Tikrit, about 100 miles north of where he was captured, coalition officials said.
