In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition of this title, 288 pages, delightful illustrations in text. In publisher's gilt decorated cloth binding, all edges gilt, pictorial endpapers. The free endpaper at the front is unfortunately missing and the book has a slight lean, but otherwise it is good externally and internally, pages clean and binding sound. From the library of the late Dr Alan Gauld, an authority on Lang's work in the field of psychical research and a collector of Lang books, with his name and sticker to the endpapers. Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, historian, and folklorist renowned for his collections of folk and fairy tales and translations of Homer. Much of the work on the children's books was done by Lang's wife, Leonora Blanche Lang, though not credited.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Dark pink cloth, gilt, all edges gilt. Spine a little dull and slightly nicked, lower cover slightly marked; the first two of Ford's uncoloured illustrations, for "How a Boy Became a Lamb", discreetly, and not unskilfully, coloured by an early reader. The last of the Langs' Christmas books to be published in Andrew Lang's lifetime: he died in July 1912. "Many families have grown up and got families of their own since [in 1889] Mr. Andrew Lang started this popular and 'scrumbustious' series," recorded The Publishers' Circular for Christmas 1911. "The stories were written, as they are given here, by Mrs. Lang; we hunted for and caught them in all sorts of books" (preface).
