Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Hardcover, original 1841 edition containing the works of Letitia Elizabeth Landon. Previous owner's name written in pencil on front pastedown. There's a single word written in pencil on the first free end page - appears to be the word "present". pages show various degrees of foxing with the pastedowns and end pages showing more brown than white. On page 55 there's a pressed flower, placed in there by someone's sweetheart over 170 years ago. It didn't cause any additional issues and we preferred to leave it with the book as it was part of its past. Minor bumps on cloth boards with this book being graded as VG minus.

First published in 1824, this is a 'New Edition' of a work that is very scarce in all contemporary editions. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece. A poetry collection from early in the career of Letitia Elizabeth Landon, the English poet and novelist, better known by her initials L.E.L. This is the work that helped establish her impressive literary reputation. Landon's writings are emblematic of the transition from Romanticism to Victorian literature. Contemporary inscription to a front blank. L.E.L. died after taking an accidental overdose of Prussic Acid at 36 years, was known as 'The Female Byron.' In a full morocco binding, with decorative gilt detailing. Light rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints, otherwise externally excellent. Hinges strained, with boards firmly held. Contemporary inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to frontispiece, with pages otherwise clean and bright. Very Good. book.

Otherwise, this is a fine edition. Gilt lettering is still bright on spine. Rare to find this first edition. BR (Box 303).

Nicely decorated spine with black labels for title and volume number. The top label is missing, so only the faint impression of the title still shows. The lower label says 'Landor. Vol. 1.' Bookplate on the inside front cover with coat of arms and name Henry C. Adams. Magd. Coll. Adams seems to have been a fellow at Magdelene College, Oxford in the mid-nineteenth century. Binding good and tight. Contents clean and square. Very little foxing. Text is a collection of verse. Landon was only 25 when this volume was published.
