First edition.viii, 301pp. Daniel Lamont (1870-1950) was a Church of Scotland Minister and academic. He was a Professor of Theology at New College, Edinburgh from 1927 to 1945; and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland from 1936 to 1937. The increasing specialism of our time is not an unmixed blessing. The situation becomes really serious when the assumption is made that the specialist is the most competent person to instruct us concerning the Whole. The purpose of this book is to remove those intellectual barriers which stand for many at the threshold of Faith. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The book is in very good condition and the contents are tight and clean. A few of the pages have some neat underlining or lines drawn on the margin. A small card bearing an inscription has been inserted into the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some light soiling. The spine and top and fore edges of the wrapper are browned and there is a crease running down the front. The top edge is rubbed and chipped and the spine ends are lightly bumped with small nicks.
