New edition, revised and enlarged with appendices. xvi, 398pp. plus a 2 page catalogue. Robert Peel Lamond (1841-1909) was a Member of the Faculty of Procurastors in Scotland. The first edition of this work was published in 1870, at a time when widespread dissatisfaction with what seemed to be the results of the Poor Law Amendments Act of 1845 threatened to bring about a new legislation of a hast and probably mischievous kind. For sale is a new edition, revised and in great part re-written and considerably enlarged. The author's aim has been to put in a clear and connected form before the officials engagesd in the administration of the Poor Law in Scotland the history and practical aspects of the law. This is an ex-library copy and has been rebacked and recased in later grey buckram boards with black titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light shelf wear on the boards and remains of a small label near the bottom of the spine. The spine ends are lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean and the only library indications appear to be traces of removed labels and some stamps on the front endpapers; some stamps and reference numbers on the reverse of the title page; and a small stamp on the bottom of page 398. The title page has a stamp reading 'With the Publishers' Compliments' near the top corner.
