[52] pp.; 21 x 24 cm.; sewn bound; black-and-white; edition size unkown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed Two volume exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with two-part show held March 14 ? May 18, 2014 and May 25 ? August 3. "Other Primary Structures revisited the premise of and built upon the Museum''s seminal 1966 exhibition Primary Structures: Younger American and British Sculptors, the first American museum exhibition to survey the style now known as Minimalism. Primary Structures introduced the public to such artists as Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Walter De Maria, Robert Morris, and others--figures unknown at the time but soon to become synonymous with a radically new approach to sculpture. Nearly 50 years later, Other Primary Structures revisits this formative moment in art history while also reexamining the period from today''s far more global perspective. "Presented in two parts, the first part of the exhibition titled Others 1, examined work created between 1960 and 1967, while Others 2, on view from May 25 ? August 3, presented work created between 1967 and 1970, some of which was directly influenced by the 1966 Primary Structures exhibition at the Jewish Museum." -- publisher''s statement. This publication includes a faithful reprint of the original 1966 catalogue published in conjunction with show held April 27 - June 12, 1966. Essay by exhibition''s curator Kynaston McShine. Includes works by Carl Andre, David Annesley, Richard Artschwager, Larry Bell, Ronald Bladen, Michael Bolus, Anthony Caro, Tony DeLap, Walter de Maria, Tom Doyle, Dan Flavin, Peter Forakis, Paul Frazier, Judy Gerowitz, Daniel Gorski, David Gray, Robert Grosvenor, David Hall, Douglas Huebler, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Phillip King, Lyman Kipp, Gerald Laing, Sol LeWitt, John McCracken, Tina Matkovic, Robert Morris, Forrest Myers, Peter Phillips, Peter Pinchbeck, Salvatore Romano, Tim Scott, Anthony Smith, Robert Smithson, Michael Todd, Anne Truitt, William Tucker, Richard Van Buren, David von Schlegell, Isaac Witkin and Derrick Woodham. A seminal exhibition. Catalogue incorporates statements by many of the participating artists along with bibliographies and biographies. Catalogue design by Elaine Lustig Cohen. The second volume includes text by Jens Hoffmann and excerpts from the transcript of a symposium, "The New Sculpture," held May 2, 1966. Printed Paper Plate in a Box. Zustand: Fine. First Edition. One 10 ¼" diameter paper plate screenprinted with lavender ink on white. This is one of four striking paper plate designs conceived by noted British Pop Artist Gerald Laing for the groovy late sixties New York boutique, On First. Located on First Avenue at 61st in Manhattan, the shop was the brainchild of noted fashion and advertising photographer Bert Stern who opened it with the idea of commissioning stylish-yet-inexpensive objects for the home and wardrobe from artists and fashion designers. The store was ultimately short-lived - closing its doors after little more than a year - leaving most of these plates neither distributed, nor seen again. A most handsome example of the lavender biomorphic circle variant of this exceedingly uncommon ephemeral multiple (entry 68 in Lyndsey Ingram and Rupert Halliwell's "Gerald Laing: Prints & Multiples - A Catalogue Raisonné") beautifully presented in a 12 x 12 x 4" archival Artservices sixties-style Plexiglas display box / frame that can be hung on a wall or laid flat on a table. Artist's Multiple.
