The jacket is poor and is laid into the book. Published to mark Wanganui's centennial, this history traces the development of the district from the arrival of European settlers in 1840 through to 1940. The book covers early Maori and European relations, settlement, commerce, river transport, local government, industry, education, churches and community life. Richly illustrated and based on contemporary records, it provides a comprehensive account of the people and events that shaped Wanganui during its first hundred years. The settlement was established in 1840 and grew into one of New Zealand's principal regional centres.…
