Hardback. Zustand: Very Good Plus. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Slipcase - Very Good. First Edition. 1985. First edition limited to 1055 copies (this is copy No. 907). xv, 91pp., many black and white illustrations on plates, including a Plan of St Andrews, and small illustrations at the end of each chapter. Allan Robertson (1815-1859) was considered to be one of the first professional golfers, and the Open Championship in golf came about as a result of Robertson's death. Since he was recognized as the best player during much of his lifetime, golfers at Prestwick Golf Club formed a competition in 1860, to decide who would succeed him as the "Champion Golfer". This book is more than a mere account of golf's first master. Allan Robertson's life was devoted to golf primarily as a ball maker, but his love for all aspects of the game led him to keep a golfing album, which is a collection of writings by others with some hand-written notes of his own. The author of this book gives an evocative commentary through the album, painting a picture of St. Andrews and its golf 170 years ago. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The book is in excellent condition and the contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The slipcase is covered in similar cloth and is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling.…
