In this useful book, Jean Racine's tragedies are accompanied with notes by FeÌlix Lemaistre. Published in French, with a note on contemporary theatre by L. S. Auger. The volume is comprised of eleven tragedies by the influential seventeenth century playwright, including Andromaque and Bajazet. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front free endpaper. The inscription reads, 'For dear Polly, with love from May M B Brooke. December 17th 1888'. A 'C. M. Rowe' has also inscribed their name in ink to the front free endpaper, dated 1966. Undated. Dated using JISC from the estimations of the University of Cambridge Libraries. In a green half cloth binding over patterned boards. Externally, sound. Rubbed to the boards. With some tiny chips in the cloth to the rear joint, and a three-inch tear to the front joint. Lightly bumped to the tail of the spine, more so to the head, which is missing a little cloth. The front and rear hinges are starting, but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and lightly foxed. Good. book.
