Hardcover. Zustand: New. The book presents an enlightening account of Chalukya Cholas, focussing the transitional phase between the rule of Eastern Chalukyas and the Kakatiyas in the Andhra history. The period of about two centuries of medieval Andhra has been dealt with multi-dimensionally: political, social, economical, architectural and religious, including the decline of Jainism and re-emergence of Saivism and Vaishnavism with their further divisions. In this backdrop, the secular outlook of the rulers of that era has also crystallized. The book is an outcome of brilliant scholarly research, through probing and discerning into the existing epigraphical and literary sources. Since the chronological account of the period is not available, the author has gleaned through the stone and copper plate grants and the neglected Telugu stone inscriptions of the later Chalukya-Cholas. The evidence of the Mallavaram plates of Prantaka Chola have also been dealt with in this exhaustive study. This book will open new vistas of knowledge to the researchers, general readers and students of Indian history, particularly of Andhradesa for which corroboratory evidence is scarcely available. …

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Language: English. About The Book:In the last couple of years India witnessed strong peasant unrest over the issue of land acquisition. West Bengal also came in the news headlines over the issue. Acquisition of land, particularly of wet land including fertile cultivable land for various projects often ousted the poor peasants from their livelihood. Rajarhat is one such area where thousands of hectares of wet land and agricultural land have been acquisitioned to develop a mega city. People protested but their voice was ruthlessly shattered. Against the State power they could not succeed. Anthropological Survey of India probed into the situation from purely academic point of view and came out with untold truth, the saga of land losers. Rajarhat also witnessed the violation of environmental policy. The vast wet land, which was the oxygen producer for the city of Kolkata, has been filled up for the realty development.
