Folklore, familiegeschiedenis, bio(…mytho)grafische verhalen en geopolitieke overpeinzingen zijn verweven in haar werk, dat voornamelijk de vorm aanneemt van sculpturen, installaties, tekeningen en video. De recente projecten van de kunstenares zijn hommages en gebeden aan haar verwantschappen. Haar nicht Iris, een Taiwanese Amerikaanse van de eerste generatie, heeft haar ge nspireerd tot een oeuvre waarin ze zich raciale en culturele hybriditeit voorstelt naast verschillende archetypes uit de natuur en de mythen. De aanwezigheid van dieren wordt een soort bewaker en toegangspoort, vorm gevend aan de innerlijke ervaring. Wang heeft werk tentoongesteld in onder andere het Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Hong-Gah Museum, Taipei en de National Gallery of Indonesia. Pei-Hsuan Wang's practice is rooted in ways of engaging with her identity, much of which is shaped by the artist and her family's diasporic migration from Taiwan to the US. Folklore, family history, bio(mythos)graphical narratives and geopolitical musings are interwoven in her work, which primarily takes the form of sculpture, installation, drawing, and video. The artist's recent projects are tributes and prayers to her kinship. Her niece Iris, a first-generation Taiwanese American, has inspired a body of work that imagines racial and cultural hybridity alongside various archetypes in nature and myths. Animal presences become a kind of guardian and portal, giving form to the inner experience. "The intergenerational transformations in Wang's works range from spiritual beings and mythological creatures to humans, plants, fruits, pop culture characters such as Mulan, or animals. They underscore the more-than-human politics that hide behind the story of the women in her family, as well as behind those of other persons in the world.
