Contains 96 printed pages of text with 4 full-page colour plates by Kronheim and monochrome illustrations throughout. Old damp line mark to the top of the frontispiece and lower paste down, one page section slightly proud, just a little rubbing to the spine ends, without any ownership markings and in Very Good condition. A well preserved original binding. 7.25" x 5.5" . Blue ripple-grain cloth over boards, gold title and illustrations ( palm trees and a group of 3 seated people). Now very rubbed, corners strengthened and recent re-back. Original yellow endpapers, with inscription: "Rebecca Soames Sandon 1866". pp.4/pp.76 . Dated from the catalogue of the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books, 1566-1910 (see p. 147) . Illustrated with 6 colour plates using Baxter process, (including the frontispiece) , signed "J.M. Kronheim & Co., London" , plus wood-engravings in the text, also, title page and text printed within ruled borders. One of the first children's books with Kronhein plates. …
