In den WarenkorbFIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, pp. x, 185, crown 8vo, original black cloth, backstrip lettered in red, top edge red, a few faint spots to edges, faint partial browning to free endpapers, dustjacket a little dustsoiled overall, very good. Roy Campbell's first published translations, and his only translations from the Norwegian - the basis for his familiarity with the language is obscure (he elsewhere translated from French, Spanish and Portuguese), but he was acquainted personally with the author having met him in Altea shortly before. It is also the first appearance of the author's work in English. Krog was also a journalist, and a critic of his homeland's collaboration with the Third Reich. Campbell's Introduction proposes the Norwegian as the successor of Heiberg and Ibsen, and hopes that these translations might herald the appearance of his work on the stages of London and New York. (Parsons C1).
