Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Norwegian language. Bound in brick cloth with titles stamped in gilt; 97 pages. Stated as "second thousand" (andre tusundet) on the title page and dated 1876, so a likely second printing, issued in the same year as the first edition. The signature of Julius E. Olson, the second Professor of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Wisconsin (Madison), appears on both the front free endpaper and the title page. The front pastedown carries the bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad, who likely acquired the book in Madison, where he attended college in the 1940s. The cloth shows only very light wear at the extremities. The spine has the remains of a title label, with the printing no longer visible. The area between the second blank and the title page is slightly pulled, but there is no actual separation in the binding. Hinges solid; binding square. A clean, tight copy of an uncommon early Norwegian printing. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Hardcover. Zustand: Befriedigend. Schön gestaltete Ausgabe einer Sammlung von drei Erzählungen des norwegischen Autors Kristofer Janson (1841 - 1917). - Kl. 8°, 168 Seiten mit etlichen S/W-Ill. Ganzleder-Bd. mit geprägter figürlicher Darstellung (drei fliegende Schwäne über Wasser) und Ornamentprägung auf Vorder- und Rückdeckel, Ganzgoldschnitt und illustrierten Vorsätzen (Eichhörnchen zwischen Kiefernzweigen). Bd. XIII der 'Nordisk Bibliotek'. - Gedruckt in einer Auflage von 4000 Exemplaren. - Der Band umfaßt die drei Erzählungen 'En Klosterhistorie', 'Prestekonen' und 'Forfulgte'. Die Texte sind nicht, wie sonst häufig bei Janson, im norwegischen Landsmaal, sondern in Rigsmaal verfaßt. Die Illustrationen stammen von Louis Moe (1857 - 1945), einem der bedeutendsten zeitgenössischen Buchillustratoren Skandinaviens. - Der Ledereinband an den Kanten und Ecken berieben bzw. bestoßen, im oberen und unteren Bereich des Rückens mit kleineren schadhaften Stellen. In den Gelenken wirkt das Leder etwas brüchig. Die schöne Prägung des Vorder- und Rückdeckels ist gut erhalten. Zwischen dem vorderen fliegenden Vorsatz und dem Reihentitel 'Nordisk Bibliotek' scheint eine Seite (auf der sich vielleicht ein Reihen-Schmutztitel befunden hat) sauber ausgeschnitten zu sein. Auf den Seiten 110 und 111 Verschattungen durch vormals eingelegtes Papier. Trotz der Mängel beeindruckt das Exemplar durch die aufwendige buchkünstlerische Gestaltung.
