Neuware - Jacob Frank fit son apparition au cours des premières décennies du XVIIIe siècle dans ce qui restait des régions orientales du royaume de Pologne, resplendissant dans son costume turc et son attelage tiré par six chevaux, pour revendiquer au nom des juifs le legs du messianisme de Sabbataï Tsevi, dont la source conceptuelle est inspirée du Zohar. En 1759, quand vint pour Frank le temps de déployer toute l'ampleur de son messianisme apostat, il fut reçu au sein de l'Église catholique romaine sous le haut patronage du roi de Pologne. Frank attribua à sa vision de la vérité religieuse révélée le nom de Das, qui devint le dogme que ses partisans, croyant en des vies et fortunes éternelles, commencèrent à embrasser. Le messianisme apostat de Frank comprenait autant de non-sens religieux, de violences et d'extravagances que celui associé à Tsevi (qui avait tracé les grandes lignes). La pleine dimension du messianisme de Frank fut atteinte dans la ville morave de Brno où il passera treize années, entouré d'une aura considérable et vivant dans un luxe encore jamais constaté parmi les juifs. Frank rencontra un immense succès, vivant dans un luxe que les juifs n'avaient jamais vu auparavant. En 1759, quand vint pour lui le temps de déployer toute l'ampleur de son messianisme apostat, il choisit d'être reçu au sein de l'Église catholique romaine sous le haut patronage du roi de Pologne (tout comme la conversion de Tsevi à l'Islam se fit sous le parrainage du sultan). La source conceptuelle directe de l'hérésie sabbatéenne réside dans la kabbale lourianique, un système théosophique inspiré directement du Zohar, développé au XVIe siècle en Galilée par le rabbin Isaac Louria. Frank donna le nom de Das à sa vision de la « vérité religieuse révélée '. Cela devint alors le principe à partir duquel ses partisans, croyant en des vies et fortunes éternelles, commencèrent à se réunir. Sabbataï Tsevi, le fondateur du « messianisme apostat sabbatéen ', traça les grandes lignes. L'association par Frank du « messianisme apostat ' comprenait autant de non-sens religieux, de violences et d'extravagances sexuelles (comme le viol et la torture) que le messianisme associé par Tsevi. La théosophie de Frank atteignit ses dimensions totales dans la ville morave de Brno, où il passa treize ans. Frank fut entouré d'une aura et d'une visibilité jamais vues jusqu'alors parmi les juifs, aidé en cela par des dons de barils d'or envoyés par les « fidèles ' qui ne cessaient de lui parvenir, ainsi que par les indulgences affichées à son égard de la part de l'empereur Joseph II et du prince d'Isenbourg. Les enseignements délivrés par Jacob Frank furent rassemblés par ses disciples et publiés à la seule attention des frankistes sous le titre Livre des paroles du Seigneur.
