In den WarenkorbPrague: Artia (printed by Svoboda), 1966. Quarto (24 x 17.5 cm). Gatherings loosely inserted in printed wrappers, as issued; [10] pp. of preliminary matter; [30] pp. of reproduced works of concrete poetry. Very good; small tear to front panel; two unidentified signatures to flap. A distinguished Czech artist and poet, Kolá? (1914-2002) was the co-founder of the existentialist post-war group "Skupina 42" (Group 42) and ultimately became best known for his innovative collages. His period of visual experimentation began with an interest in concrete poetry in the 1960s, while part of the Kavárna Slavia group along with Václav Havel and Josef Hir?al. Taking its name from Watteau's painting, this publication gathers thirty "silent poems" consisting of dense typographic arrangements, each dedicated to a key modernist artist and, at times, vaguely evoking their individual styles. The artists thus honored include Albers, Bill, Brancusi, Calder, Duchamp, Kandinsky, Kupka, Lissitzky, Malevich, Moholy-Nagy, Mondrian, Rothko, Tinguely, Schwitters, Stazewski, Pollock, and others. The book was also published in French and English variants, although all editions are scarce. The text part contains a short biography and overview of the artist's work, as well as exhibitions and gallery holdings. Outside the Czech Republic, KVK, OCLC show no copies of this Czech edition in North America (we can trace one copy of the French and two of the English edition in American libraries as of April 2025).…

In den WarenkorbDüsseldorf: Mankopf Siebdruck, 1970. Original screen-printed poster on thick card stock, measuring 96.5 × 68 cm. Very good. Screen-printed poster based on a collage entitled "Jízdní ?ád" (Timetable). A a distinguished Czech artist and poet, Kolá? (1914-2002) was the co-founder of the existentialist post-war group "Skupina 42" (Group 42) and ultimately became best known for his innovative collages. His period of visual experimentation began with an interest in concrete poetry in the 1960s, while part of the Kavárna Slavia group along with Václav Havel and Josef Hir?al. The present poster was evidently produced for an exhibition held at a Düsseldorf gallery and showing Kolá?'s collages, rollages, and other objects. According to the former owner, the poster was produced locally in a very small print run (fewer than eighty copies). A variant of this poster, with additional text and printed using offset, is frequently found, but this screen-printed original is rare. We are unable to locate any institutional holdings; the location of the original collage that served as the motif for the poster is also unknown.…

In den WarenkorbZustand: Sehr gut. This original collage by Ji?í Kolá? dates from 1968 and is a refined example of the artist?s pioneering approach to visual poetry and image appropriation. The composition presents a vertical sequence of butterflies, meticulously constructed from cut fragments of a work by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. *** Butterflies play a recurring role in Kolá??s oeuvre and function here as symbols of transformation, fragility, memory, and cultural migration. By using Renoir?s imagery to build these forms, Kolá? creates a dialogue between classical painting and postwar conceptual art. Using mixed collage techniques on cardboard, the work demonstrates Kolá??s exceptional precision in cutting, assembling, and recontextualizing existing artworks. Rather than producing new imagery, he reshapes art history itself into a new visual language. *** The work is monogrammed and dated in ink by Ji?í Kolá? at the lower right, confirming its authenticity. *** Professionally presented, by our own frame-shop in an exclusive Plexiglass showcase, which can be presented standing or hanging. Size showcase : approx.50 × 40 x 4 cm. ** Ji?í Kolá? (1914? died 2002) was one of the most influential Czech artists of the twentieth century and a key figure in postwar avant-garde art. Initially active as a poet, Kolá? expanded language into the visual realm, developing an innovative body of work he described as visual poetry. From the 1950s onward, he became internationally known for his experimental collage techniques, including chiasmages, rollages, froissages, and intercollages. His work often addressed themes of political oppression, memory, freedom, and the fragmentation of modern experience. After facing censorship in communist Czechoslovakia, Kolá? later lived in Paris, where he achieved wide international recognition. # Authenticity and provenance guaranteed. # Delivered with a certificate of authenticity. # Worldwide shipping, tax-friendly to the USA and EU countries. # Custom handmade framing available on request.
