Koichi Takinawa is not only a close friend of Tadanori Yokoo but a prominent contemporary artist in his own right. His pencil and crayon drawings, his gouaches and his caricat…ures, have earned him critical acclaim both in his home country and abroad; his work has been exhibited in Sweden, West Germany Belgium, Russia and Austria. As a connoisseur of art, Mr. Tanikawa has written a number of articles on the contemporary art scene. He had previously analyzed Yokoo's work in a critique titled "The ldea of Paradise in Collage," in the Fall 1973 issue of the quarterly Kikan Design as well as in an essay, "Symbolic Darkness Leading to Ecstasy," in the June 1974 issue of the monthly Sun. Mr. Tanikawa was born in Tokyo in 1938. He is the founder of the Guild Graphic Workshop where many promising artists are being trained.
