Contents are in fine condition; boards have light age… wear. Intended to highlight the culture, athleticism and civic participation of German students and to foster healthy competition. In his encouragement for a British readership of the book, Knowles states: "As a Member of the British Olympic Council I would commend it, moreover to the attention of athletes who are about to take part in, or to assist at the Olympic Games in Berlin." (From the preface). In fact, the 1916 Games were cancelled due to World War I. Sir Lees Knowles, 1st Baronet, KStJ, CVO (1857-1928) was a British barrister, military historian and Conservative politician.
