Carleton further alienated his countrymen by his accusations of gang violence, sectarian violence, and alcoholism among the Irish Catholic tenant class.Illustrated with a frontispiece, title page and six further plates from Phiz, the pen name of the prolific Victorian era illustrator Hablot Knight Browne, who contributed to ten of Charles Dickens' publications.
