Volume in publisher's vellum half binding with tan patterned paper boards; brown leather label to spine with gilt titling; text block with gilt top edge, deckle…d fore edge, and laid-in ribbon bookmarks. Slipcase is brown cloth with same tan patterned paper. Slipcase shows rubbing along the joints and at the corners. Some splitting to cloth at the top corners. Some scuff to paper side panels. Peeling to paper at the top of the interior. Volume shows mild shelving wear to boards, with some rubbing along board edges. Small closed tear in the paper at the top edge of the front board. Splitting at the top edge of the rear joint. Chipping to label on spine. Text block is lightly age toned and worn along edges, with a faint stain on the top edge. Some very sparse, scattered foxing on early pages. Interior otherwise clean. Signed flat in black ink by Hall on limitation page "Manly P. Hall" to a subscriber J. Hodgson Smart. Manly P. Hall (1901-1990) was a Canadian-born author and mystic, known for founding the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles and his large body of work, the most prominent of which is An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy (commonly known as The Secret Teachings of All Ages) This volume is one of 550 copies of the rare, original subscribers' edition, which was celebrated for its typography and striking, full-page illustrations. Published when Hall was 27, The Secret Teachings of All Ages was immediately successful, and established Hall as a prominent voice in America's growing metaphysical movement.
