Complément de l'autre traité de l'auteur sur les maladies chirurgicales d'origine conge?nitale, et plus rare que ce dernier, ce traité devint l'ouvrage de référence sur le sujet. *** THE STANDARD WORK ON ACQUIRED DEFORMITIES FOR A GENERATION *** Il est divisé en 4 parties : tuberculose, rachitisme et troubles de développement du squelette (scoliose, coxa vara, genu valgum, pied plat, etc.), difformités consécutives aux malafdies du système nerveux (paralysie infantile, paralysie spasmodique [maladie de Little], hémiplégie infantile), difformités d'origine traumatique et inflammatoire. Certaines données sont novatrices. En particulier Kirmisson décrit (pp. 363-375) la subluxation progressive du poignet de Madelung, en y ajoutant une seconde forme (inversée) et propose de nommer cette affection "luxation progressive du poignet chez les adolescents". Les très nombreuses figures intercalées dans le texte représentent les différentes difformités acquises (rachitisme, tuberculose osseuse, difformités d'origine nerveuse ou traumatique) et illustrent le matériel et les accessoires nécessaires à l'appareillage des patients. Ce traité est l'un des premiers à comporter des reproductions de clichés radiographiques. Kirmisson a introduit l'ostéotomie pour les luxations congénitales irréductibles de la hanche. Il décrit la méthode opératoire de traitement du pied-bot, à laquelle il laissa son nom. Les planches représentent des épispadias et des hypospadias. Une traduction allemande de ce traité fut publiée dès l'année suivante. Edouard Kirmisson (1848-1927) est né à Nantes, où il commença ses études de médecine, achevées à Paris. Il fut professeur de clinique chirurgicale des maladies des enfants à Trousseau puis aux Enfants-Malades. Il fut le premier président de la société française d'orthopédie et membre de l'Académie de médecine. Er wurde Externe am Hôtel-Dieu bei Guéneau de Mussy und widmete sich als Interne vollständig der Chirurgie. 1879 promoviert, 1893 Agrégé mit der These "Des modifications modernes de la lithotritie", Paris 1883, war er acht Jahre Chirurgien am Bureau central, dann Chirurgien des Hôpitaux und befaßte sich fortan mit pädiatrischer und orthopädischer Chirurgie. 1897 ging er an das Hôpital Trousseau und wurde 1901 Professor für pädiatrische Chirurgie und Orthopädie am Hôpital des Enfants-Malades. Begründer der "Revue d'Orthopédie", publizerte er: "Maladies des régions.
