This thesis investigates the generation of such a relativistic electron mirror structure in a series of experiments accompanied by computer simulations. It is shown that such relativistic mirror can indeed be created from the interaction of a high-intensity laser pulse with a nanometer-scale, ultrathin foil. The reported work gives a intriguing insight into the complex dynamics of high-intensity laser-nanofoil interactions and constitutes a major step towards the development of a relativistic mirror, which could potentially generate bright burst of X-rays on a micro-scale.

Februar 1722 zu Schwerin, studirte seit 1737 zu Rostock Jura, trieb aber mit besonderer Vorliebe Mathematik, daneben auch eifrig Musik und Malerei. Er ging 1741 nach Jena, promovirte dort im Januar 1746 mit der Schrift: "De acquisitione haereditatis ejusque effectibus secundum jus naturae" und habilitirte sich darauf im April für Mathematik und Physik (incl. Baukunst) mit der "Disputatio de expansione aeris per ignem". Aus den Vorlesungen, die Suckow als Privatdocent hielt, gingen die "Ersten Gründe der bürgerlichen Baukunst" (Jena 1751) hervor, die in mehreren Auflagen erschienen und denen später die "Ersten Gründe der Kriegsbaukunst" folgten (Frankfurt und Leipzig 1769). Eine Berufung nach Erlangen 1754 ausschlagend, nahm Suckow im gleichen Jahr eine Stelle am Hamburger Gymnasium an; er begab sich 1755 dorthin, kehrte aber schon im darauffolgenden Jahr nach Jena als ordentlicher Professor der Physik und Mathematik zurück. Er hat als solcher noch mancherlei Schriften über verschiedene Gegenstände veröffentlicht, den "Entwurf einer Naturlehre" (1761), eine "Einleitung in die Forstwissenschaft" (1775), über "Ursache von Ebbe und Fluth" (1766), "Verwandtschaft der Körper" u. a. Er starb als weimarischer Geheimer Kammerrath am 16. August 1801. Eine Selbstbiographie hat er zu Baldinger's Biographien jetztlebender Aerzte und Naturforscher 1.
