Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Traditional procedures in the statistical forecasting of time series, which are proved to be optimal under the hypothetical model, are often not robust under relatively small distortions (misspecification, outliers, missing values, etc.), leading to actual forecast risks (mean square errors of prediction) that are much higher than the theoretical values. This monograph fills a gap in the literature on robustness in statistical forecasting, offering solutions to the following topical problems: - developing mathematical models and descriptions of typical distortions in applied forecasting problems; - evaluating the robustness for traditional forecasting procedures under distortions; - obtaining the maximal distortion levels that allow the 'safe' use of the traditional forecasting algorithms; - creating new robust forecasting procedures to arrive at risks that are less sensitive to definite distortion types.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Yoque en el campo he nacido dig6 que mis cantos son para los unos sonidos, y para otros intencion. H. Hernandes - Martin Fierro. The period of active influence of the people on desert environments in Central Asia counts more than 2,000 years. It includes several stages of the social and the economic development of human society - from primitive culture of hunters to developed modern society with great changes of envi ronment and 'nature remaking'.Heritage of the past is one of the main causes of land degradation in Central Asia. So, only historical analysis of relations between the man and the desertcould give infor mation for awareness of desertification. What an idea have the people about the desert In the mind of many people 'desert' is identified with a sterile, lifeless and gloom land unsuitable for life. The mass media, specially the cinema sup ports this idea. Very popular subject of many films is the death of travelers in the desert from thirst. Eventhe names of hot winds (the 'gibly' inSahara, the 'samum' inArabian desertand the 'afganets' inCentral Asia) fill the minds of peoplewith horror. There are many legends about armies buried inthe sand, aboutflourishing oases and towns covered with sand drifts. Inthese legends the truth is mixed with fiction. But as known, 'the truth isstronger than fiction'.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book is concerned with important problems of robust (stable) statistical pat tern recognition when hypothetical model assumptions about experimental data are violated (disturbed). Pattern recognition theory is the field of applied mathematics in which prin ciples and methods are constructed for classification and identification of objects, phenomena, processes, situations, and signals, i. e. , of objects that can be specified by a finite set of features, or properties characterizing the objects (Mathematical Encyclopedia (1984)). Two stages in development of the mathematical theory of pattern recognition may be observed. At the first stage, until the middle of the 1970s, pattern recogni tion theory was replenished mainly from adjacent mathematical disciplines: mathe matical statistics, functional analysis, discrete mathematics, and information theory. This development stage is characterized by successful solution of pattern recognition problems of different physical nature, but of the simplest form in the sense of used mathematical models. One of the main approaches to solve pattern recognition problems is the statisti cal approach, which uses stochastic models of feature variables. Under the statistical approach, the first stage of pattern recognition theory development is characterized by the assumption that the probability data model is known exactly or it is esti mated from a representative sample of large size with negligible estimation errors (Das Gupta, 1973, 1977), (Rey, 1978), (Vasiljev, 1983)).
