unbound. 3.5 x 4.25 inches, May 23, 1923, signed "With Great Esteem, C. O'. Higgins" -- a choice example of one of the most important figures in Irish history during the first half of the 20th century. Ink notations and mounting remnants on the back, but still in very good condition. Irish statesman who supported the treaty with Great Britain that created the Irish Free State. In 1922 he became Minister of Justice and Vice President of the Executive Council (Cabinet). His part in the execution of 77 Republicans in 1922-1923 made him many enemies and culminated in his being assassinated in 1927 at the age of 35 by members of the Irish Republican Army.
