Title continues, ".before Admiral Sir Thomas Pye, President, upon a charge exhibited against him by Vice Admiral Sir Hugh Palliser, for misconduct and neglect of duty, to which is annexed, several letters and papers relative to the subject : together with a glossary of technical terms and sea phrases, used in the course of the trial." Trial of Viscount Keppel on charges of misconduct and neglect of duty in the July 1778 naval battle against France in which Keppel commanded the western squadron. Keppel blamed the failure of the battle on one of his subordinate admirals, Sir Hugh Palliser. Keppel and Palliser each accused the other of treason; both Keppel and Palliser were tried and both were acquitted. Keppel became full admiral on 29th January 1778 and immediately pushed Lord Sandwich to copper sheath the hulls of the British Fleet but was turned down. After the trail in 1782, Keppel was promoted to First Lord of the Admiralty and raised to the peerage as Viscount Keppel.
