Erstausgabe
Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. Davis, Kenn (illustrator). 1st Edition. Brautigan, Richard. THE GALILEE HITCH-HIKER. San Francisco: The White Rabbit Press, May, 1958. FIRST EDITION: THIS EDITION IS LIMITED TO TWO HUNDRED COPIES. 8vo - 8-1/2" x 6-7/16". Hand-stitched original parchment outer wrappers with an illustration by Kenn Davis of a carnival midway and titles printed in black to front outer wrapper, and red stiff paper inner wrappers with titles printed in black to front inner wrapper, with light toning along the spine fold of outer wrapper, for what otherwise is a solidly fine copy of the book. [16] pp. The Galilee Hitch-Hiker is a single poem, with nine separate parts; it was Brautigan's second published book, appearing one year after his first book, The Return of the Rivers (1957), which was also a book of poetry. The Galilee Hitch-Hiker was printed by Brautigan's friend Joe Dunn, who was the founder of the White Rabbit Press, using the printing equipment at the Greyhound Bus Company in San Francisco, where Dunn worked; a handwritten bibliographic note, and signature of Graham Mackintosh, who would take over the White Rabbit Press in 1962 on the colophon as follows: "Printed by Joe Dunn at Greyhound - Graham Mackintosh." Internally the book is fine. The condition of the book is NEAR FINE. RARE; and a beautiful copy.
