Bound by Edmonds & Remnants in cloth, with gilt lettering and decoration. This particular copy comes from the Worcester Public Library, Victoria Institute, with a library issue label tipped-in to the front pastedown with dates from 1892 to 1896, and a gilt number to the front board. Douglas William Jerrold was a playwright, journalist and prolific contributor to 'Punch' until his death in 1857. It was in 'Punch' that Jerrold first published his comic series 'Mrs Caudle's Curtain Lectures', that details the exploits and 'lectures' of Mrs Caudle, 'the most persistent bednag ever born', who has a remarkable talent for 'turning molehills into mountains'. This text was illustrated by the notable English artist and illustrator Charles Keene. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally worn to extremities, including bumping and rubbing, with fading to spine. Hinges strained. Internally generally firmly bound. The frontispiece is only partially attached.
