Heavy-pebbled brown cloth made to look like leather over thick boards rounded at the corners and with gilt letters and decorations on the front cover and gilt letters on the spine. No noticeable wear to extremities, covers clean and bright, gilt bright (!), two small rubbed spots on front free endpaper, else fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. This book was published to accompany the exhibit of Hoffman's photos at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, October 27-December 31, 1977 and at The Julia E. Hoffman Gallery, School of the Arts and Crafts Society of Portland, Oregon, February 1-25,1978. Julian Elizabeth Christiansen Hoffman [1856-1934] was Hoffman was a photographer, painter, sculptor, metal worker and weaver and an arts patron who fostered the Portland Arts and Crafts Movement through exhibitions and art classes. In 1907 she led the establishment of the Arts and Crafts Society of Portland, a forerunner of the Oregon College of Art and Craft which named Hoffman Gallery in her honor.
