Karl Moritz Diesing (1800 - 1867) "hospitierte bereits als Student der Medizin ab 1820 täglich mehrere Stunden bei Bremser in Wien. Nach Bremsers Tod 18…26 arbeitete er bis 1829 unentgeltlich als Kustos-Stellvertreter. Anschließend erhielt er als "Praktikant" ein geringes Gehalt. Erst 1836 wurde er als zweiter Kustos-Adjunkt für Helminthen endgültig angestellt, 1843 als erster Kustos-Adjunkt. Sein Gehalt war aber auch dann gering, er lebte stets in fast dürftigen Verhältnissen und widmete sich ganz seiner Wissenschaft. Diesing war ein äußerst sorgfältiger Beobachter. Unter den Systematikern war er neben Bremser und G. Wagner der beste Zeichner. Seine vieljährigen Untersuchungen veröffentlichte er zum größten Teil erst 1850/51 in dem zweibändigen «Systema helminthum», das der damaligen Einteilung entsprechend auch die Protozoen enthielt. Er erblindete 1849, nur durch sein gutes Gedächtnis und die uneigennützige Hilfe seines Freundes v. Pelzeln konnte er den zweiten Band vollenden und seine späteren Arbeiten veröffentlichen. «Diesings Werk ist heute noch unentbehrlich» urteilten Pagenstecher (1857), A.Schneider (1866, S.20), v.Linstow in seinem Kopendium von 1878, S.VII und M.Braun (1889 a, S.221). Diesing war zu seiner Zeit der maßgebliche Systematiker. Nachteilig war, daß beim Erscheinen seines Hauptwerkes einiges bereits veraltet war, denn auch die ersten bereits um 1825 erzielten Ergebnisse veröffentlichte er unverändert. Wie Rudolphi (1819) und Ehrenberg (1851) sah auch er Larvenformen als selbständige Arten an. Die extraintestinal meist frei in der Leibeshöhle liegenden Nematodenlarven faßte er zur Gruppe der «Agamonema» zusammen, die durch Wirtsgewebe encystierten als «Agamonema capsularia». 1858 erkannte er zwar die Cercarien als Larven an, sie wurden aber auch weiterhin mit Gattungs- und Artnamen versehen. Insgesamt errichtete er zwölf Cercariengenera. Die Systematik der Cercarien ist ständig erweitert worden und existiert noch heute." K.
