Paperback. Thin quarto [28.5 cm] Green and black printed paper jacket over flexible card wraps. Very good. The edges of the lightly rubbed covers are faded, bumped, and chipped. There are tiny holes in the covers and pages near the spine, perhaps where a string tie binding was used. There is a small pen mark on the front cover, and there is a small library stamp on the third page, else free of library markings. The gatherings are a little loose. A couple of the pages have brief notations in pen. Born in Shungopovi, Second Mesa, Arizona, Fred Kabotie became a well-known painter, illustrator, silversmith, teacher and writer of Hopi Indian life. 'The life of Fred Kabotie has been one of dedication to the artistic traditions of the Hopi. Through his exquisite paintings he has introduced international audiences to the beauty of Hopi legends and ceremonies. As a Guggenheim fellow Kabotie sought roots of Hopi symbolism in ancient cultures. As a teacher on the Hopi mesas, he inspired pride in and continuity of his students' great artistic heritage.
