Halle Magdeburgiae, Typis Ioannis Christiani Hillgeri, 1733, 4°, 28, (4) pp., Broschur. Erste Auflage! Johannes Junker (Juncker) (1697-1759), " war am 23. September 1679 in Lehndorff bei Giessen in ärmlichen Verhältnissen geboren, widmete sich seit 1697 in Halle dem Studium der Theologie und Philologie und wurde darauf als Lehrer am königlichen Pädagogium in Halle angestellt. Doch gab er diesen Beruf beeinflusst durch die Ausbreitung der Stahl'schen Lehren auf, begann 1707 das Studium der Medicin in Erfurt, und nachdem er nebenher, zur Bestreitung seiner Existenz, verschiedene Stellungen als Hauslehrer bekleidet hatte, kehrte er 1716 wieder nach Halle zurück, wurde hier 1717 Dr. med., erhielt dann die Stelle als Arzt am Waisenhause in Halle, bis er 1730 zum ord. Professor der Medicin an der dortigen Facultät ernannt wurde. In dieser Eigenschaft erwarb er sich das grosse Verdienst, zuerst den klinischen Unterricht in Halle eingeführt zu haben, wobei ihm seine Stellung als Arzt am Waisenhause sehr zu Statten kam. Nach langer ausserordentlicher eifriger Thätigkeit als Lehrer der medicinischen Klinik starb Junker am 21. October 1759. Testatine, iniziali e finalini animati e riccamente ornati. Frontespizio ristampato in rosso e nero. Legatura coeva in piena pergamena rigida. I tre tagli sono colorati rossi. L'esemplare è completo, le pagine sono brunite specialmente ossidate nella porzione stampata. Prima rarissima edizione. Importante studio medico-chimico del celebre medico tedesco Johann Juncker. L'autore fu a lungo professore di medicina ad Halle (fu anche rettore dell'Università) e medico privato di molte eminenti personalità dell'epoca. Junker fu anche uno dei massimi difensori della teoria del flogisto di Georg Ernst Stahl. Tale teoria elaborata nel XVII secolo riguarda la combustione dei materiali e ha l'intento di spiegare i processi di ossidazione e combustione. La teoria del flogisto venne successivamente smentita e abbandonata dopo che fu resa pubblica la legge della conservazione della massa di Antoine Lavoisier. La teoria in sostanza sostiene che i materiali combustibili e metalli arroventati si trasformavano in calci (oggi diremmo semplicemente che si ossidano) producendo durante il processo di combustione o di calcinazione, il flogisto, un misterioso principio di infiammabilità o principio solforoso. Junker fu anche un grande organizzatore e fondò uno degli ospedali più apprezzati della sua epoca realizzando una struttura di sanità pubblica ad Halle che distribuiva farmaci gratuitamente ai poveri. L'opera qui presentata, che ebbe varie riedizioni nel corso di tutto il XVIII secolo, è particolarmente apprezzata per la sua completezza nella trattazione di diverse patologie e per la chiarezza dei sentimi legati agli stessi. A collection of university dissertations by various leading German physicians, including *De Uteri Scirrho* by Johann Georg Roederer illustrated with a fine engraved folded plate with two detailed figures of the uterus. Roederer was appointed first professor of obstetrics at the University of Göttingen by George II in 1751. Also included is *De Extractione Cataractae*, Georg Friedrich Sigwart's dissertation on cataract surgery; two works of medical forensics by Michael Alberti and Johann Juncker, (both professors of medicine at the newly founded University of Halle); and other works related to physical therapy and mental health.
