Ich möchte herausfinden, ob das Matriarchat als eine gute Alternative zum Patriarchat angesehen wird und sich sogar als Modell für eine gut funktionierende Gesellschaft erweist.Ich konzentriere mich besonders auf das größte Matriarchat der Minangkabau, das als das größte noch existierende Matriarchat der Welt gilt. Die Größe dieses Matriarchats ist jedoch nicht der Hauptgrund, warum es meine Aufmerksamkeit erregt, sondern der interessante Diskurs, den es mit sich bringt. Denn diese Ethnie befindet sich auf einer indonesischen Insel, die überwiegend islamischen Glaubens ist. Wenn man an den Islam denkt, wird sofort eine Verbindung mit patriarchalen Prinzipien hergestellt, die denen des Matriarchats widersprechen. Ich werde mich speziell mit diesem Diskurs beschäftigen und noch einmal die Frau im Islam untersuchen, sowie die Prinzipien des dort lebenden Matriarchats erläutern.
