Collates: A4, *B4, *b4, B-2Y4, Z2, 2a-2v4, x2. Title page is A2. First Edition. Complete. With Coat of Arms frontis, two folding plates, one folding table. With the famous bird's-eye view engraving of the order of battle at Naseby, by Robert Streeter (1624-80). An etching; printed from two copperplates on two sheets of paper, then joined together. Our copy of the battle was removed at some point and a tear professionally repaired from the back using acid free material. The map was then remounted on a stub. Except for fold marks, the map is now in a stabilized very-good plus condition. Bound in contemporary blind ruled calf. The spine in five compartments with blind ruling and four raised bands. No label as per the period. The boards with exposed paste-board with leather wrapped-around the edges as per the period. Cracked along the back hinge, but both the top and foot of the spine with older repair, stabilizing any cracks. Corners stabilized. Holding nicely by all the cords. Internally with double contemporary front and end sheets, with some chipping to the edges of the end-sheets. 1938 ownership signature to front sheet, with a price of 45 GBP. Slight browning on the edges probably from the red staining applied to the edges when the book was bound. Minor foxing here and there, no water stains, leaves still fresh and supple. A great example of a mid 17th century English binding. The volume measures 28.2 x 19 x 4 cm. Each leaf measures 278 x 180 mm.…

Zustand: Fair. 1647; London; Brown leather covered boards that are severely worn; boards showing through at corners and worn away; both boards are detached but present; spine covering is missing; covers are stained and scuffed; text block is separated in sections but all pages appear to be present, main section from p 33-335 is intact; interior pages are worn and fragile at the edges - appear to have been burned at the edges but no text was lost; Previous owner's name on ffep; Coat of Arms engraving is present, however missing the engraving of Sir Thomas Fairfax on horseback; a few pages have marginal notes; fold out map "The Description of the Armies of Horse and Foot of His Majesties and." is intact with a few tears, one of which was tape repaired on the back side; Fold-out table at pp334-335 is present and attached with a few tears that have been tape repaired - all text is legible; interior pages are remarkably clean and unmarked; 4to, 9 3/4"-12" tall; Additional shipping charges may need to be requested due to size or weight of book.…

The text block is in very good condition however it has been rebound at some point. and a signature at the bottom of the title page is very slightly cropped. No foxing evident hoever the end papers have been replaced. Leather boards, the front barely attached and the rear unattached with rubbing to edges. They have, howeve,r served the purpose of protecting the text block. Paste on title on spine, handwritten. Tipped in table at rear unfortunately has a portion missing. Still a well documented history of the armies at that time.…
