However the explosion in our understanding of mammalian genome and accompanying technological innovations has opened up new avenues in farm animal genetic research. Advances in molecular genetics during the last two decades have been phenomenal and the researchers are more inclined to use genomic tools to solve their research questions. Molecular markers especially DNA markers that are capable of revealing genetic variations at DNA level are now key players in animal genetic research programs.
